Contract joinery in Durham
If you are looking at Architectural Joinery in Durham, the timber is only half the decision. Most of what we survey locally is colliery terraces, Georgian Durham city stock and Pennine stone housing, which is not built to any modern module. Because of cold upland winters with heavy rainfall, we see frost and saturation damage on unmaintained painted softwood more often here than in most of the country. The value is in one-off items worked from a drawing set rather than a catalogue, not in the timber bill.
A surveyor visits first and records the real dimensions, at several points on each opening. Rough dimensions and a couple of photographs are enough for us to price it properly.
Something particular to this area: Durham's cathedral setting carries World Heritage-level design scrutiny.

Verified client, County DurhamDurham questions
Do you work in hardwood or softwood?
Both. Engineered hardwood is the default where movement or exposure is a concern, and slow-grown softwood is often the better value choice for painted work in sheltered positions. We will tell you which we would specify and why.
Do you deliver nationwide?
Yes, we deliver across England, Wales and Scotland. Delivery is priced into the quotation so there is no separate charge added later.
Do you take a deposit?
Not before the measured survey. A deposit is only requested once the survey is complete and you have approved the final schedule and price.
Can you match an existing profile?
Yes. If you can supply a section, a photograph with a rule in shot, or an old unit, we can replicate the profile. For conservation work this is usually the condition the planning officer will apply.
Can you price from drawings?
Yes. Send a drawing set or a schedule and we will price against it. If anything is ambiguous we will query it before quoting rather than assume and reprice later.
